Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) working with its member churches and other stakeholders across the country has launched a vigorous addiction recovery program which will be rolled out through its member churches and faith-based organizations.
In line with Evangelical Fellowship of Zambiaโs strategic plan, the program which commenced on 10th of October 2023 (World Mental Health Day) targets an initial ninety-five (95) Pastors and church leaders from across Zambia trained, is aimed at championing advocacy against drug and alcohol abuse which has consequences of addiction and other related effects.
โAddiction support groups are a major component of recovery paths for many in society,โ said EFZ Executive Director, Bishop Andrew Mwenda on the occasion of the inaugural addiction recovery two-day, three-part training for pastors and church leaders in Lusaka which will run until November.
He added that EFZ believes that the power of faith has the potential to guide persons with substance use disorder (SUD) through the journey of sobriety.
โChurch led initiatives for addiction recovery, helps those battling addiction connect with God and develop healthy habits that can create a good foundation for lasting sobriety,โ said Bishop Mwenda
Health experts recently reported that Zambia is battling widespread addiction due to alcohol and substance abuse.
